Welcome to IDEm
The Interdisciplinary
Society of Ethnomusicologists (IDEm) was founded on
March 19th 2001 in Belgrade. The scope of IDEm’s work is
to further develop contemporary forms of research,
methodology and theory in ethnomusicology and related
fields, as well as to promote musical cultures of Serbia
and the Balkans in their traditional and modern variety.
By advocating diverse scientific and theoretical
standpoints and representing heterogeneous forms of
musical heritage, IDEm strives to provide a
conversational space for scientific and cultural work,
having in mind both contemporary trends in
ethnomusicology and specific needs of local cultural
climate. The guiding principles of IDEm are as follows:
fulfillment of
professional needs of its members, education of the
public, cooperation with local and international
organizations, institutions and societies with similar
missions and orientations.
The activities of IDEm
are as follows: field research, promotion of scientific
and theoretical achievements of its members,
organization of the concerts, festivals and similar
